Our History

Founded in 1910, Standard had its early roots as a leader in the low-cost, high-speed reproduction market transforming the industry with its revolutionary spirit process for short-run duplicating. In 1972, L. Guy Reny became president and immediately set out to streamline operations, boost productivity, and build the foundation for future growth and diversification. His first major introduction—the Standard Bourg Collator—helped secure Standard’s position as the leading distributor of friction collators for print shops across the United States and Canada. This marked the beginning of what would become Standard Finishing Systems, a company committed to supporting commercial printers, in-plant printers, quick printers, and trade binderies.

Reny purchased the company in 1975, assuming full ownership and guiding Standard through decades of technological advancement and industry evolution. During this time, his sons joined the business, and together they relocated the company to its current headquarters in Andover, MA. Under their leadership, Standard introduced pivotal product lines to the North American market, including those from long-time manufacturing partner Horizon. This early vision was the springboard for the broad and robust portfolio of finishing solutions Standard offers today.

Now in its second generation of family ownership, Standard is led by David Reny, Steven Reny, and Doug Reny. They continue to build on the company’s legacy by strengthening its market-leading position with innovative, cutting-edge finishing technologies designed to enhance customer efficiency and drive long-term success.
